Former Oasis songsmith Noel Gallagher landed at the Fox Theater in Oakland with his High Flying Birds on their US tour leg supporting their current release, Who Built the Moon?; his 3rd solo offering since Oasis disbanded in 2009.
After signing some autographs for patient fans in the afternoon, the High Flying Birds took the stage at 8:15pm.
Immediately apparent is the caliber of the group behind Gallagher, which also includes longtime Oasis guitarist Gem Archer. The instrumentation — drums, guitars, bass, keys, vocal harmonies, scissors!, and even a horn section — were all nearly flawless and perfectly mixed. But the biggest surprise here was vocalist YSÉE (Audrey Gbaguidi), who’s power was clearly evident in the big-beat opener “Fort Knox” as well as throughout much of the set.
