Roger Daltrey — legendary vocalist of The Who — arrived in Oakland, CA to end a quick four-show solo stint in the US after Las Vegas, NV and Stockton, CA. Supporting him on this run were members of The Who’s backing band, including Simon Townshend, brother of iconic guitarist Pete Townshend.
At 74 years old, Daltrey doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Waltzing out onstage, he and his band immediately launched into an extended overture before morphing into “Pinball Wizard”… tambourine and swinging mic and all. 50+ years of being the frontman of one of rock n’ roll’s all-time greatest bands certainly agrees with Mr. Roger Daltrey, and the crowd wouldn’t have it any other way. He addressed this level of longevity, stamina, and tour schedule with a quip, along the lines of: “I sometimes ask, ‘Why do I continue to do this to myself?’ …well, it’s because I love it.” Lifelong fans of The Who erupted in applause.
The band then launched into “Who Are You”, “Another Tricky Day”, and “Behind Blue Eyes” making it apparent that the night would consist largely of Who tracks. Daltrey and Co. were in top form the entire time.
See more photos and view the show’s setlist below! Oh, and Led Zeppelin guitar wizard Jimmy Page was also in attendance. Fun fact.
