During the (first) hiatus of Seattle’s Sunny Day Real Estate in 1995, drummer Will Goldsmith and bassist Nate Mendel were recruited by Dave Grohl for a fledgeling group called Foo Fighters. Singer/songwriter Jeremy Enigk went his own direction, flipping the script and eventually releasing his first solo effort Return of the Frog Queen in 1996. Gone were the dueling distorted guitars, ushering in piano, strings, and horns.
Now 22 years later, Enigk embarks on an anniversary tour to celebrate the remastered/deluxe release of Return of the Frog Queen. The first date was Thursday night at The Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco, CA.
Complete with a string section, Enigk beautifully made his way through the album from front to back, adding an encore of select tracks from his most recent album Ghosts and even some Sunny Day Real Estate material.
