1199322513_fEx-Megadeth drummer (or “classic-era” drummer) Nick Menza died after collapsing onstage last evening during a show in in Studio City, CA. He was three songs into his setlist at The Baked Potato venue with his band Ohm when he suffered an apparent heart attack, and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Menza, best-known for his decade stint as part of the classic Megadeth lineup, was still an active drummer and had even met with his former Megadeth bandmates about possibly rejoining the group for their current chart-topping release Dystopia. However, the band went with Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler for various reasons.

Nick joined Megadeth in 1989 with lead guitarist Marty Friedman, and recorded the majority of the band’s biggest albums/songs including Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction, Youthanasia, and Cryptic Writings.
