Cymbals Eat Guitars LP – Why There Are Moutains

I’m sitting here trying to find a way to describe the new Cymbals Eat Guitars LP called “Why There Are Mountains” but I’m having a tough time. You see the Brooklyn foursome have such an engaging sound that it’s hard to categorize it. As I’m sitting here typing this, I’m listening to it for the fourth time. It’s infectious. The melodic tones and wall of sound hit you like a hard right hook but leave you feeling as if you’ve just fallen head first off a New York Skyscraper  able to brush off the long fall. “Why There Are Mountains” is reminiscent of bands like Brand New, Death Cab For Cutie, or even And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead but yet the sound is well organized and presented in a way that makes you feel like you just walked on feathers. Tracks like “Indiana” and “Cold Spring” are very well thought out and composed in a way that make you feel as though these guys have been together for a lifetime yet the band is hardly a couple of years old. “Why There Are Mountains” is a great album to be played in the background of your life.
