Marc Broussard brought his band and Louisiana-inspired soul music to a sold-out show at Portland, Oregon’s Aladdin Theater this past Saturday night after Field Guide opened the night. Broussard and his crew wasted no time, jumping right into The Wanderer, one of the standout tracks from his breakout Carencro record which is about to feature on a 20-year anniversary tour early next year.

The band flew through most of the set with little in the way of breaks or chatter, with a cover of Frankie Miller’s Baton Rouge sticking out as a memorable performance in the middle of the set. Broussard came back to the Carencro record towards the end of the night, playing a delightful version of the key heavy Lonely Night in Georgia, an energetic trip through Rocksteady, and a surprisingly sped-up version of the gritty swamp anthem, Home. Portland doesn’t have a date on Broussard’s upcoming Carencro 20th anniversary tour next year so this might have been the last chance to see him in the Pacific Northwest for quite a while.
