German arena rockers the Scorpions brought their “Crazy World” tour (with main support Megadeth) through the Bay Area at Oakland’s Oracle Arena. The backboards and hoops belonging to the Golden State NBA champions made way for giant LED screens, drum risers, speakers and a catwalk to host an evening of hair metal and thrash metal.

Megadeth took the stage first, bringing a blistering hour of past classics and new heavy hitters from their 2016 Grammy-winning album Dystopia. Although always fun to see/hear songs like “Hangar 18” and “Symphony of Destruction”, highlights of their set had to be “Take No Prisoners” and “Mechanix”, the latter of which Mustaine co-wrote with former band Metallica (who released their own version of the song under the title “The Four Horsemen” in 1983).

Scorpions then made their grand entrance around 9pm with a giant curtain drop and came out all smiles, straight into “Going Out with a Bang”. The band seemed to be in good form, with guitarist Rudolph Schenker stealing the show with his physical antics. Photos below by Clay Lancaster.
