April 5th is an arbitrary date to most people. For others, it’s a birthday. Or a wedding anniversary. Maybe their car registration is due.

Still, for many it is a slight reminder of how much great music we’re probably missing from the 90’s Seattle scene, as April 5th marks the deaths of both Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain (1994) and Alice in Chain’s Layne Staley (2002).

There isn’t much to be said that hasn’t already been declared thousands of times about these artists… so all we can do at this point is throw on a record and remember how much we miss their presence in rock music, and how grateful we are that they existed.
