Hot on the heels of their new EP Super Fake Nice and a performance on Jimmy Kimmel, Matt Mahaffey and his band sElf rocked the El Rey theater in Los Angeles on August 1st. The band has only played a handful of shows in the last decade, as touring is not one of Mahaffey’s priorities. The El Rey show is the only one on the West Coast in the foreseeable future, which is why we at theFIVE10.com jumped in the car for the 6 hour drive from San Francisco to cover the show.

Self’s set included selections from The Half-baked Serenade, Gizmodgery, and Breakfast With Girls, along with the entire track list from Subliminal Plastic Motives (as it is the record’s 20th anniversary).
