Pop doctor Matt Mahaffey will release a new EP next week under the name of his brain child “Self”. It will be his first release since 2005’s Porno, Mint & Grime (which were songs not included on his never-released Dreamworks album Ornament & Crime from 2004). I know… it sounds complicated.
Self has been around for 20 years, breaking out with 1993’s “So Low” and put Mahaffey in the industry spotlight as a pop-smith and producer. Although not releasing any of his own material lately, he’s certainly been busy contributing to artists like Beck, Pink, and Lupe Fiasco. Mahaffey also wrote that little jingle from Expedia.com that we are all familiar with.
In celebration of 20 years, Self will be releasing an EP titled Super Fake Nice, just in time for one of their uber-rare live shows at El Rey in Los Angeles on August 1st (we will be there). The feel-good synth pop single can be seen below… complete with dancing cats.
