It was a quiet evening on the streets of Buckman outside of Revolution Hall in Portland, OR this past Thursday, but it was an altogether different scene inside the venue. Wolfmother—the hard rock trio from Australia, and brainchild of Andrew Stockdale—took the stage just minutes after 9 PM, and dear reader, the noise did not subside for quite some time.
As they have done for most shows this tour, the band opened up with Dimension from the band’s self-titled debut, with Stockdale immediately inviting the crowd to feed their energy back to the band during an absolutely electric guitar solo. Drummer Nate Wagner and bassist Nick Vogelpohl (both of Cincinnati) comprise the band’s current rhythm unit and provided great support to Stockdale during one of the band’s latest tracks, Rock Out.
The band’s performance of Woman was a highlight of the night, with Stockdale alternating between stretching out as far as he could over the front of the stage and pumping his arm in the air between strums and solos. Meanwhile, Wagner was an absolute maniac on the drum kit and Vogelpohl was busy keeping the groove going.
The show had quite the finish with the fan favorite Joker and the Thief wrapping up the main set before the band returned for a
a raucous and very satisfying cover of Led Zeppelin’s Rock and Roll. Everyone’s ears might still be ringing a bit a few days later, but it’s hard to go wrong when you close down a show that way.
