Jason Mraz kicked off his 2023 summer tour on Thursday night at the historic McMenamins Edgefield venue in Troutdale, OR, just outside of Portland. The summer concert series on the beautiful McMenamins property is a staple of summertime in Portland and Thursday’s show did not disappoint.
Mraz was joined onstage by His Superband, an eclectic and impressive collection of musicians consisting of members of Raining Jane, Grooveline Horns, and various freelancers. At first glance you might think there were almost too many musicians on stage at the same time, but it was obvious that everyone knew their role and was very comfortable playing off of each other.
The show started off with—unsurprisingly!—‘Getting Started,’ before immediately getting the crowd grooving with ‘I Feel Like Dancing,’ the lead single from Mraz’s latest album, 2023’s ‘Mystical Magical Rhythmical Radical Ride.’ An extended jam closed out a great performance of ‘Butterfly’ before a slight calm prefaced launching into ‘The Remedy,’ Mraz’s original single that debuted back in 2003.
The band jammed through quite a few tracks before slipping into a quiet encore and closing out the night for everyone with the crowd swaying and singing along to ‘I’m Yours.”
