Doused in a wash of blue and purple, to a maximum-capacity Ace of Spades in Sacramento, The Claypool Lennon Delirium took the stage for a night of twisted dream prog pop in a way only they can do it.

Namesakes Les Claypool and Sean Lennon are out promoting their newest release, South of Reality, which dopped in February of this year. The expansive US tour lasts throughout July and August, joined by Uni for some dates, and The Flaming Lips for others.

The band launched into a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Astronomy Domine”, a fitting choice considering what they had lined up for the rest of the evening. Following up, with their own “Cricket and the Genie (Movement I, The Delirium)” everyone was up and running.

A highight of the night was the track “Boriska”, which is based on almost a Nirvana-esque guitar riff and comes to an intense conclusion. Among the rest of their own material a few other cover tunes littered the setlist, including “Boris the Spider” by The Who, and even “Tomorrow Never Knows”… by the band Lennon’s father used to be in.

Catch them on one of their summer dates, and view some photos below in the meantime. All photos by Clay Lancaster.
